My Pretty Pemberley Chore Chart

My fun, carefree (busy) summer has come to an end. Sigh. While we have been out enjoying the warm (hot!) weather, housework has not been a top priority.

NOW, it is time to get down to business and get things back in order. Since school has started, I'm trying to build routines so I am not doing major crisis cleaning every time there is a chance that someone will step through my door.

Today's project is just the thing to get me in gear!

This newest addition to my kitchen wall is both functional and decorative. A few years ago, I adapted the Fly Lady routines to my personal space. Since then, I've fallen off the wagon, but decided it was time to revive those practices. In the past, I have tried putting my to do lists in a binder or inside the pantry. You've heard the saying "Out of sight, out of mind"? Well, that is exactly what happens to my to do lists if they are tucked away. I completely forget what I am supposed to be doing and at the end of the week, the house is a mess.

So this time to ensure that the chores actually get done, I'm putting the list on a prominent wall between my kitchen and breakfast table. Of course, I can only do this if it is pretty! No computer print offs stuck with magnets to the fridge for me. Fortunately, the yellows and blues in the Pemberley paper matches my decor in this area perfectly.

The chart includes six tags stored in a decorate Memory Protector Photo Storage Page. The first five tags are my to-do lists for each day from Monday to Friday. The last tag is the current week's "Zone". If you are familiar with Fly Lady, you know that dividing your home into zones is a good way to spread the more detailed cleaning tasks over the month. Go to www.flylady.net for more on how to get your home organized so you can "fly!"

The storage pages are great because they are compatible with dry erase markers. As I complete items on my list, I can check them off. Next week, I will erase the checks, update the zone tag and start all over again.

Most of the stamping is from the Pemberley Workshop on the Go stamp set. The tags, flowers and scroll work are from the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.

The extra zone tags are stored in a 12" x 4" Memory Protector Flip Flap affixed on the back. How convenient!

I've had a lot of fun planning and making this chore list. Now, I just need to execute and do the chores! We'll see...

Have a great day,
Rebecca

Artiste Help

If you have followed my blog over the last month or so, you know I am in love with the Artiste cartridge. There are so many things you will love on the cartridge including accents, cards and 3-D project. One unique thing about this cartridge is the assembly booklet that removed all doubt when putting together the 3D objects.

The video below hows you navigate the cartridge and booklets. Here are a few highlights to listen for:
  • Matching colors in the handbook indicate coordinating pieces.
  • Set the Real Size Dial on your machine for the measurement of the assembled item.
  • To cut a piece a certain size, use the Real Dial Size button.
  • Measurements in red, bold font in the handbook indicate the recommended size for the item (or larger). The direction of the arrow next to the size indicates whether the measurement is horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
  • Some items require cutting multiples of a piece. This is indicated by a red x. For example, cutting two borders to make a rossette is indicated by x2.
  • The handbook and assembly booklet are cross-referenced by page number using numbers in green circles.
  • In the assembly book, tick marks indicate score lines, dotted lines are for folding, arrows indicate the direction to fold and glue bottles indicate where to place adhesive.

Custom Ribbon in Studio J

Watch this video to learn some great new techniques. For example, using a text box to add texture to your ribbon --- surprise, it is just slash marks! I love all how they layered colorful buttons on the Stickease. So simple, but it adds to much.

School Days Mini-Album

With just a few additional items, you can use the left over paper and supplies from the Scholastic Workshop on the Go to make a mini-album. The supply list and directions are HERE.

For my album, I wanted to showcase all of my daughter's elementary grades. As you'll see from the pictures below, I changed the layouts of the pages to accommodate her school pictures from Preschool through Sixth Grade.

I also made a couple changes to how the card flaps were used. First, I created an enclosure by scoring the flap on the back page about a half inch from the original fold. this is about the right depth so that it reaches to the front of the album. After I took these pictures, I added a couple of the new hook and loop dots to hold it shut.

For each of the interior pages, I left the pockets open. I plan to make a one page summary tags of the important details for each grade to insert into these pockets.

Pages 2 & 3

Pages 4 & 5

Pages 6 & 7

Third Grade Layout - Done Fast!

A well-kept secret is that on the back of each set of My Stickease Assortment are two layouts that can be completed using just cardstock and the stickers. In CTMH-speak, these layouts are called "Level 2" since they do not involve stamping and are fairly quick to pull together.

The first layout is typically featured in the idea book, but the second is a mystery until you have the Stickease. For example, the first Scholastic Level 2 layout is on page 44 of the 2012 Autumn/Winter Idea Book and uses approximately half of the Stickease available.

Here's a layout that I adapted from the second pattern which uses most of the remaining stickers.

As you saw in my earlier post, I am working on completing a layout for each of my daughter's elementary. This one is her 3rd grade class. Other than struggling with whether to try to hide, match or ignore the bright green background on the class picture (I choose to ignore it), this layout was quick and easy to pull together.

School Yeart Layouts - K and 6 Done!

Here's my version of the Scholastic Workshop on the Go layouts:

My daughter is entering middle school this fall, so my goal is to finish a scrapbook of her elementary years by the end of September. The Scholastic papers are really helping me get closer to achieving that goal. These two layouts take care of the bookend years: Kindergarten and 6th grade. I have a little more journaling to do to call these 100% done, but getting close.

I love how much dimension the durables studs add to these layouts.
See my kits page for more information about ordering my Scholastic kits or coordinating items.

Scholastic Kits are Here!

Just in time for Back to School, I am offering three project kits using the Scholastic paper.

My first kit includes everything you need to create 12 cards (4 each of 3 designs). These cards would be appropriate for congratulations, back to school, teacher thank you, and more.

Close ups of the cards:

There are two options for scrapbookers. My level 2 kit makes use of the card-stock weight coordinating Stickease. No stamping is required to create these quick layouts.

The level 3 workshop on the go includes an exclusive stamp set as well as coordinating accessories for added flexibility and beauty.

See my Kits page for more information.

Artiste Key Notes #3 - Outta This World

This post continues my series which focuses on one key on the Artiste Cricut cartridge at at time. Today we are looking at the Birthday Boy key which is on p. 68 of the handbook.

The images on this key coordinate perfectly with the Outta This World stamp set featured on page 105 of the Autumn/Winter Idea Book. This allows you to easily make space-themed invitations, hats, and party favors.

The video below will show you how.

Another fun idea using this key is the Hanukah candy popper from page 81 of the Idea Book.

The Artiste Collection and other supplies needed for these projects can be purchased on my CTMH website.

Have fun creating,
Rebecca

Quote of the Week

Today's quote is in honor of my best friend and dear husband, Eric. Our 18th wedding anniversary is tomorrow. We started as friends and remembering that has gotten us through our roughest times.

FREE Big Picture Class!

In an earlier post, I mentioned that our keynote speaker at Friday's general session at the convention was Stacey Julian from Big Picture Classes. She was entertaining and very inspirational. She also gave us a code for a free online class and permission to share with our friends. Thank you Stacy!

The class, "Finish Line Scrapbooking", is a $12 value and will teach you to scrapbook in record time. You can access it by using this link and using the promo code CTMH. Offer expires on December 31, 2013.

Increase your vocabulary: "Craftermath"

Just wanted to pass on a new word I learned at convention from fellow consultant Sheri Rottler.

craf-ter-math (noun): Consequence or result of a productive crafting session; i.e. what your room looks like when you are done with a project.

Sample sentence: My entire basement is currently in a state of craftermath.

That is entirely true. I really need to learn to clean up one mess before I start another.

Baroque Borders - August Stamp of the Month

One of the perks of being a Close To My Heart consultant is that you get to "preview" new items. That means that I get to play with them before they are available in retail.

Last week, I made this card using the August Stamp of the Month, Baroque Borders.

The sentiment is from the "4 My Friend" stamp set (D1510). This card also uses the NEW Avalon paper pack with the NEW Slate cardstock. There is a lot more NEW stuff in the 2012 Autumn/Winter Idea Book which was just released today.

Here's some more ideas for this stamp set:

Would you like to make the projects pictured above? Follow this link to the supply lists and directions.

This stamp set is only available during the month of August 2012. Order yours today for $17.95 or just $5 with an order of $50.

Here's a card I made using this stamp set. I used the new Avonlea B&T papers with Slate cardstock.
