One more Chalk It Up Project!

The month of August is winding down and all month I've been posting projects made with products from the Chalk It Up collection. I have one more quick and easy layout to show you.

For this layout, I moved away from the school theme and added some flowers and hearts. As you can see, this layout is missing a title. Since I have not yet decided what pictures to use on the layout, I figured I'd wait to add it later.

As you can see in this detailed shot of one of the clusters, I used fom tape to add dimensions and layer the flowers. I was tempted to color the flowers --- they seemed to be begging for the new alcohol markers. But the layout already had lots of color so I left them white. I like how it turned out, don't you?

You will also notice that I created my own B&T paper by stamping circles tone-on-tone randomly on Lagoon paper. This is a very inexpensive way to add some design to otherwise flat cardstock without over powering the pictures and other elements on the page.

Supply list (available on my CTMH website)
Chalk It Up Paper Pack
Chalk It Up Accessory Pack
Sequins Gold Assortment
Gold Shimmer Trim
Happy Birds stamp set (C1600)
Glitter Glam stamp set (B1465)
Here We Go Stamp set (D1600)
Black & Lagoon Ink Pads

I hope this project has given you some new ideas to try on your own projects.

Happy Creating!

Flavored Water & Snack Gift Idea

Need a quick and easy gift idea? I love making a drink mix and snack holder by cutting "door hanger with box" on the Cricut. Just assemble the box, loop it over the lid of a favorite drink and fill with yummies.

The door hanger is from the Art Philosophy Cartridge. It's on page 25 of the handbook using the shift key and layer function (bottom right hand corner of page).

The hanger is cut with a notch on one side. When I added the treats to the box, it didn't want to stay on the bottle. So covered it with some washi tape and the hole was still large enough to slip over the water bottle lid. You can see this better in this side-view picture.

This "door hanger" can be used on other beverage bottles like soda or wine. In fact it would work on anything that is in a bottle -- I just heard yesterday that Olive Oil collections are the new rage. How about buying a bottle of fancy oil for a friend. Put some seasonings, a special recipe or a gift card in the box.

Until next time, keep creating!

Chalk It Up Picture My Life Mini-Album

Today, I realized that I never shared on my blog this adorable mini-album that we made at the Close To My Heart convention this summer. As you will see it is really easy to make following just a few simple steps.

1. Select a Picture My Life Program
Pick a Picture My Life Program that goes along with the event or theme of your mini-album. This is probably the hardest step because there are so many great Picture My Life kits! The cards for my mini-album are from the Chalk it Up program.

2. Choose Specific Cards.
You can make your album as thick or thin as you like. Mine includes10 cards. You will probably want all of your cards to have the same orientation -- landscape or portrait. But hey, you can do whatever you want. The album will be small so turning it sideways for some pages isn't a big deal.

Choose one of the cards to be your cover. Close To My Heart provided convention attendees with the exclusive cover shown above. Isn't that awesome? But don't worry, there are still hundreds of title cards to pick from!

3. Personalize!
This is the fun part. Make the album uniquely your own by adding pictures, journaling, stamping and embellishments. I've added a few photo mats on the pages shown below. (Sorry, have not printed my convention photos yet.) In addition, I added some stamping, stickers from the Chalk It Up Assortment set and mini-sparkles.

You will find that some pages don't need any embellishment or maybe just a sticker or two.

4. Finish.
Punch holes along the left side of each card. Line up holes and thread a piece of ribbon through and tie in a knot. Make sure you leaves some slack in your ribbon. My first attempt was too tight and the album would not lay flat.

That's all there is to making a Picture My Life mini-album. Close To My Heart has done most of the work for you by creating beautiful quality cards!

So, which Picture My Life set do you pick?

Just a reminder that you get the best deal when you order Picture My Life in August. For each program ordered, you can add a set of 10 page protectors for just $3!

Got a mini to share? I'd love to see pictures. Post a link in the comments below.

Happy creating!

Two layouts using Chalk It Up Complements

Today, I wanted to share these two layouts using the Chalk It Up papers and Complements. Although these layouts were made by the fabulous Close To My Heart artists, they are not featured in the Annual Inspirations book and I knew you'd want to see them.

I love how quickly layouts come together using the Complements that coordinate perfectly with each paper pack. The Chalk It Up Complements are sturdy chipboard and add colorful dimension to your projects.

Don't forget that my August Collection of the Month is Chalk It Up. Now is the time to order supplies for your projects so you can complete them at my house in September. In addition, you can post your projects on Social Media to enter my Collection of the Month contest.

Have a wonderfully creative weekend!

Organize your Picture My Life with Divider tabs - FREE Craft Room File

Did you know that Close To My Heart's medium organizer is perfect for Picture My Life/Project Life cards?

Here's a picture of the contents of my dedicated Picture My Life organizer.

I took out a couple of the dividers in the back to make two sections for the 4x6 PML cards on the left and photos on the right (empty until I get them printed). The front sections from left to right are 3x4 PML cards, photos, My Crush 3x4 cards and 4x4 My Crush cards.

I cut all of the dividers on the joining images from Art Philosophy in Cricut Craftroom.

Ready to organize your Picture My Life cards? I've uploaded Craftroom files for both the 3x4 and the 4x6 dividers. (Note that I changed the style slightly -- for the better -- after I cut mine.)

To download the files, click on the link below the Craftroom screen shots below. This first file will cut three 4"x6" dividers at a time. The dividers will have landscape orientation and fit in a double-wide section of the medium organizer.

The second file will cut six 3"x4" dividers at a time. These dividers will have portrait orientation and fit in a single section of the medium organizer.

REMINDER: In August, when you purchase one of the Picture My Life programs, you can add an additional pack of Memory Protectors for just $3! Click here for more information>>

Happy Organizing!

Skylark Picture My Life Greeting Cards

Last Friday, I posted a video (LINK) showing some creative non-scrapbooking uses for the Picture My Life cards including using them for greeting cards.

I was inspired to give it a try and made these two cards.

Both of these use cards from the Skylark Picture My Life Program. Each one uses one 4x6 card cut down to make the background for the greeting card. Then I cut up additional Picture My Life cards to add sentiments and embellishments. So quick!

Don't forget that in August, when you buy a Picture My Life program, you can purchase a 10 pack of memory protectors for just $3! Click HERE to learn more>>

I hope these projects have inspired you to look at your paper products differently. Sometimes it is good to forget what original purpose is and think outside the box to find a new way to use them.

Keep creating!

Whoa! There are a lot of cards in each Picture My Life kit!

This month, I am promoting the new Picture My Life programs from Close To My Heart. These kits are already a great value at just $24.95 each, but during the month of August, when you buy one program you get an extra set of page protectors for just $3!

When you click the shopping link above, you will see sample cards from each of the 13 programs.

But don't you want to see more?

My fellow consultant, Donna Digby of DAT's My Style, took the time to photograph a complete set of cards for each of the programs! She generously granted permission for us to link to her blog so that you can see them to!

Here's a thumbnail shot of all of the cards you get in the Surf's Up kit.

Want more? Here are links to her blog posts in which she posted the pictures for each program:

Just a reminder, each kit comes with a total of 123 cards (44 - 4" x 6", 78 - 3" x 4" and 1 - 12" x 12), plus a set of 10 Memory Protectors. During the month of August, double the number of Memory protectors to 20 for an additional $3. The regular price for a pack of 10 protectors is $9.95, so you are saving almost $7.

I love adding Picture My Life pages to my albums. The last couple years, I've inserted a page or two of "pocket" pages in the middle of my albums for the random summer pictures that don't really warrent full layouts.

You can also use PML for all of your scrapbooking! The cards are so lovely, you will have your memories beautifully preserved in no time.

There are so many ways that Picture My Life cards can be used on your projects. The journaling and sentiment cards can be added to regular layouts. The lovely "title" cards make really quick greeting cards. You can also bind a few cards together to make quick mini-albums.

Happy 'Owl'oween Card

Today, I want to show you a another card I made with this month's stamp of the month, "What a Hoot". Yesterday, I showed you a quirky owl birthdy card. For today's card, I used the Halloween accessory stamps to create this funky owl dressed up as a bat.

I used the same design (Gallery, p 199 of Wishes) as yesterday, but turned it on end for a portrait-oriented card. I also used the same colors and paper pack, but replaced the birthday hat and caards with a mask, bat wings and pumpkin. What a fun disguise, lol!

Card featured in yesterday's post
Link to yesterday's post>>

This stamp set is only available through August 31. The full retail price is $17.95, but you can get yours for just $5; that's over 70% savings. When you place an order of $50 or more in Close To My Heart products, you qualify for this special Stamp of the Month pricing.

Just $5 with a $50 purchase!

I hope you enjoy this project. Tomorrow, I'll post a similar card I made that follows the Halloween theme closer. In the mean time, keep creating!

"What a Hoot" Birthday Card

Today, I want to show you a card I made with this month's stamp of the month, "What a Hoot". When I first look at the stamp set, I immediately thought of it as a Halloween set. But upon closer inspection, I noted all kinds of things you can use to dress up the cute little owl/bat. The accessories you choose can totally change the season of your project.

For this card, I choose to use the celebration hat and flowers to make a quirky owl birthday card.

This card is based on the Gallery design on page 119 of the Wishes book. Although I used the Scaredy Cat paper, I choose patterns that are not blatantly Halloween.

All the stamping is with Black pigment ink and colored with the new Alcohol markers (Marigold, Peony Purple & Pastel Peach.) Although the markers are not available in our exclusive inks palette, the colors coordinate quite nicely as you can see. In fact, after I colored the owl with Peony Purple (2 coats), I couldn't tell it was not cut from Thistle paper.

This stamp set is only available through August 31. The full retail price is $17.95, but you can get yours for just $5; that's over 70% savings. When you place an order of $50 or more in Close To My Heart products, you qualify for this special Stamp of the Month pricing.

Just $5 with a $50 purchase!

New Product: ShinHan Touch Twin Alcohol Markers!

Starting in August, Close To My Heart will be carrying selected colors of the Shinhan Touch Twin Alcohol Markers. I got to test drive these markers at convention and found them to be very comfortable to use, bright color and even ink flow. They make a great addition to the Close To My Heart product collection.

Check out this beautiful artwork created by the Close To My Heart corporate artists using the new alcohol markers.

I love how these simple card patterns come alive with the vivid colors of the markers. The sentiment on the first card is from the new Lovely Birthday stamp set (B1462) and the flowers are from Pretty Petals (C1599). The stamping on the second card is from the Rainy Day (C1597).

The ShinHan Touch Twin Markers:
  • Are ergonomic
  • Won't roll away!
  • Are dual-tipped: one fine tip and one broad tip
  • Fine control of ink flow, no smudging or bleeding
  • Are easy to blend
  • Odorless
Close To My Heaet offers the markers in 24 colors, giving you a wide range of flesh tones, neutrals, and an entire rainbow of vibrant hues. The ccolors were selected to represent a broad spectrum of the color wheel and offer consistency in intensity and hue for each shade. We also carry the Colorless Blender Marker which has the same ink formula as the colored markers and can be used to carry blended shades, remove unwanted color or clean up edges where coloring may have strayed outside the lines.
