Welcome to Wonderland!

Today, I want to show you a couple layouts I made using the Wonderland papers. I just love the colors of this paper. Blue has always been my favorite color. The blue and brown combination for winter papers is somewhat suprising but it works.

My first layout is from last January. If you live near St. Louis, you may remember that last year was a record setter for snow days from school. (Especially for a the district my daughter attends). One week school was canceled on Monday, and Tuesday, and ... Although the streets near our house were cleared early in the week, some of the rural roads remained trecherous for the buses.

I had planned to be off work on Friday so I told my daughter that is she was still off school on Friday we'd do something together. After a week of being cooped up indoors, she choose ice skating. We bundled up and headed to Steinberg Ice Rink in Forest Park. Neither of us are great skaters, but we had fun trying. It felt so good to be outside!

Even though I deviated from the Workshop On The Go pattern somewhat to accomodate my pictures, I did use several techniques including the paper "ribbon" and putting sparkles in the foundry pin head shown below.

More Mad About You

This weekend, I got out the Mad About You stamp set and made a variety of Valentine's Day Cards.

This first card is intentionally somewhat masculine. I use a Kraft Die-Cut Card as a base and the Dreamin' papers to dress it up. The tags were cut out using the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.

Catching up with Studio J

Recently, I finished a batch of Studio J layouts and today I'm going to share the first two which are from the summer of 2001. I can't believe it has been over 10 years already! We had just gotten our first digital camera (which weighed a ton compared to today's models) and were excited to take lots of pictures.

Do you have files of digital pictures that need to be organized? Wouldn't it be great to have them in a scrapbook to tell their story for years to come? Studio J is a great way to start getting caught up! Just pick one event and start creating.

I'm so excited to finally have the "Meet the Family Weekend" pictures below scrapped. We road tripped all the way to Cincinnati with my husband's parent and brothers and their families to visit his Grandpa. We also got to see his uncle, cousin and other family members. It was great to have everyone in one place. So of course, we set up our tripod and took some pictures.
Studio J - Kit: Lucky, Pattern: Front and Center (rotated)

I love that the pictures show how dirty and sweaty the kids were from playing hard on a hot July day. The Lucky kit is perfect for this backyard reunion.

If you look closely, you may notice some strategically placed items to cover the annoying red date stamp on the photos.

Strategically placed text box!

The second layout shows pictures from a quick trip we made to Seattle to meet my husband who was traveling for work.

Studio J - Kit: Majestic Blue, Pattern: Fab Fifteen

For those of you that like to fit a lot of pictures on a page, this pattern is great. I was able to fit 15 on these two pages! Online scrapbooking allows you to shrink down, blow up, or crop pictures as you go rather than be stuck with the size you printed. My layout turned out looking a little busy, but that is fitting because it was a rather busy weekend.

Interested in trying Studio J?
You can set up an account and start making layouts for free! Just click here to get started.

If you like Studio J as much as I think you will, you can purchase either a membership or a 5-pack (click here) to get prints of your projects.

Studio J Membership Plans
12-Month Membership  $99
3-Month Membership    $30

Member pricing on a 2-page layout is only $6.50 (or $3.25 per page). Along with beautiful 12" x 12" prints, you will receive free JPG files, free shipping and handling (limits apply) and Memory Protectors.

Studio J 5-Packs (GREAT GIFT IDEA!)
5-Pack                           $55

Includes 5 two-page layout prints, 5 Memory Protectors and free shipping and handling.

Christmas Mini-Album

Today, I want to show you the cute Christmas mini-albums we'll be making at the December Creative Day Workshop.

This fun album is made from four circular cards from the discountinued Around the Holidays card kit, which includes colorful card bases, Stickease, ribbon and foam tape to decorate the cards. For the workshop, I'm tossing in a few Sparkles to add pizzazz!

To make the album, I glued each card shut to form an album page and sponged the edges with Chocolate ink. Then I decorated the pages with Stickease (popped some up with foam tape), Sparkles and ribbon. On the back of the last page, I stamped "2011". To form the album, I simply punched a hole in the top of each page and threaded them on a ring clip.

All that is left to do is add a few pictures from our 2011 Christmas celebrations. Come make your own!!

Date: Sunday, December 18
Time: 2:30 - 5:00 pm
Price: $5 per person (open to anyone age 9 and up)
Location: My house in Arnold, MO (I'll email you address upon registration)

You can purchase additional album kits to complete on your own for just $4, while supplies last.

To register, please email me and let me know how many people you are bringing. Hope you can make it!

Embossed Holiday Wishes

I finally had time to play around with the Holiday Wishes stamp set. Embossing powder seemed appropriate for these fancy images. For this first card, I used the toe of the stocking and branches o f the tree to add a gold embossed design to the edge of a plain white card. The center is a piece of Holiday Red cardstock. I embossed the tree with gold and sponged the edges with black ink. I love the way this card turned out.

For the next card, I used one of the new die cut cards. I lined the inside with outdoor denim cardstock to make the die-cut edge pop out. Then I added the sentiment, ornament and flowers with outdoor denim embossing. It seemed to need something else, so I added a few sparkles.

If you are ready to try some embossing, check out the Embossing Starter Kit which is $10 in my Black Friday special which ends on Monday, November 28. If you have any questions about using these products, I'd be glad to help you get started.

Don't forget you can get this lovely stamp set for just $5 with a $25 stamp purchase through November 30.

Whimsical Birthday Cards

I'm excited to show you the birthday cards we will be making at the November 20 workshop. I guess I was in a whimsical mood when I designed them because all of these turned out bright, simple and fun.

I'm a summer person at heart. As I was thinking about making cards in November, I felt the need to make them colorful and cheerful. So, no matter what the weather is like on the outside, these cards will brighten the spirit of the birthday folks you send them to.

Take a peek:

So what do you think? You may have noticed that we are using a new card making tool this month: the lighter. So you get to play with paper, stamps and fire! Don't you want to join us?

Still hesitant? We are a friendly group of ladies and we will do our best to make you feel welcome immediately. Even if you have never made cards before you can make these cards. We will make them one simple step at a time together. All the while, we'll be chatting about life, our kids, our jobs, pets and just about everything else. (As we like to say, it is cheaper than therapy.)

Here's the details:
November 20, 2011
2:30 - 5:00 pm

You will make 12 cards (4 of each of the three designs pictured above) for $12.

So put it on your calendar and come to my house for a fun girls afternoon. Bring a friend or make one once you get here!

Holiday Magic - October SOTM

The 80 degree plus weather we have been having here is Missouri certainly doesn't make me think that Christmas is coming anytime soon. I'm actually writing this post sitting out on the deck in capris and a short sleeved shirt enjoying a day that is about as beautiful as a day can be. This is not typical for a Missouri Fall day.  However, the leaves are starting to change,  and  the calendar on my computer says it is almost the middle of October. So logically, I will deduce that Christmas is coming.

The October Stamp of the Month, Holiday Magic, will help you get started on your Christmas projects. This stamp set has traditional Christmas images of a tree, sleigh and stocking. A few snowflakes and holly leaves are thrown in for decoration. In addition, some short and sweet holiday wishes are included to round out the set.

Instructions for making all of the projects in the picture above are posted on the CTMH website under Campaigns and Promotions. Click here to open that page.

The first thing I made with this stamp set is this sleigh card.  To get the background trees of various heights, I stamped them on the card base before adding the checked foreground paper.

Buttoned Up Card Video

If you like chunky bling, the cards featured in this video are right up your alley. My style is a little simpler, but I still love this stamp set. If you are a "less is more" person, just leave off some of the buttons, brads and bling. The stamped images will show through beautifully.
These cards are also featured on p. 99 of the Autumn/Winter 2011 Idea Book. Please let me know if you have any questions about the project or would like to order the supplies to make one yourself.

Studio J Photo Tips

Even if you are an experienced Studio J scrapper, you will learn some cool tips on this video. My favorite was combining two photo wells into one to fit a larger photo. I also like that you can convert a text box into a photo well. I'm always trying to fit more pictures onto my layouts.

If you are ready to try your hand at Studio J, follow this link, to set up a free account and create your first layout! I'd love to talk with you if you have any questions about Studio J. Just drop me an email!

Thanksgiving Card Video

Fall is certainly arived! I'm a summer girl, but I can't help but enjoy the colors of autumn. I bought my pumpkins and put an leafy wreath on the door as soon as it started feeling chilly. Fall is a great time for crafting. It's cozy to be inside but also comfortable to go out to get inspiration from nature.

I think you'll enjoy this video on how to make the beautiful pumpkin card found on page 66 of the Close To My Heart Autumn/Winter 2011 Idea Book. "So Grateful" is one of my favorite new My Acrylix stamp sets. This set is great for cards and scrapbooking. Do you have some pumpkin patch or carving pictures that need a home? I am planning to "scraplift" a beautiful layout posted by another Close To My Heart consultant earlier this month that also uses this stamp set set. I'll post pictures once I have it done.

Let me know if you'd like more information on how to get the supplies or tools for this project.

Thank You Card Workshop - 9/18

This Sunday it is card making time again!  If you have never come to one of my card workshops, let me assure you that it is a great way to get some quality "girlfriend" time. You will not regret missing your Sunday afternoon nap! We have a fun group and we would love to have you join us.

You will make 12 Thank You cards for $12, four each of three card designs.

For this first card, we'll learn how to make color coordinated brads using cardstock and liquid glass. Very cool when you don't happen to have some that match. We will also use tickets cut by the new Art Philosophy cricut cartridge. Very quick and easy!

Verand B&T paper
My Acrylix For Every Occasion and Dreams Come True stamps
Creme Brulee Grosgrain ribbon

We will also use the Art Philosophy cartridge for the tickets and scalloped circle on this card. The stamps used came with the Art Philosophy bundle.

Zippedee B&T paper
My Acrylix Art Philosophy Tag Stamp Set

For the remaining card, we will use clear embossing powder to make our own "irresistable" wreath. By applying darker ink, but wreath will POP out. I'm still playing around with the exact card design. I will post a picture once I have it just right.

You can now register for this workshop online. Click here to go to the Cards by the Dozen page then scroll downto the September 18 Order Now button. Email me if you have any questions.

Hope to see you here!

Studio J: Now that's fast!

Manger Christmas Card

I have one last Christmas card to show you and it is my favorite. I really wanted this one to have a rough look. Like it has been in the stable with baby Jesus. I used a stipple brush to distress the Kraft card stock with Cocoa ink. I dug the fake straw out of my craft closet. I've had it forever and I have no idea what it is called.

In case you can't read the text, it says "A baby, a manger, a bright and shining start; A shepherd, an angel, three kings from afar, A savior, a promise from heaven above --- The story of Christmas is filled with God's love." On the inside of the card is stamped "Joy to the World".

Recipe (all Close To My Heart):
Kraft, Cocoa and Colonial White card stock
Milepost shapes
Archival Black and Cocoa ink
My Acrylix Christmas Story
Hemp and "straw" (not CTMH)

I hope you have enjoyed my parade of Christmas cards over Labor Day weekend. So, now that you have seen them all, what is your favorite?

Peace on Earch Card

I've got another Christmas card to show you today. This one is simple and sweet. The inside says Luke 2:15, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Zippidee B&T Duos
Honey and Colonial White card stock
Antique copper brads
My Acrylix Glory to God and Everlasting Life

Once again, I picked discontinued paper from my stash that I purchased at a big discount. I had to double stamp the image to really get it solid and dark. Good thing I'm using clear stamp blocks!

What do you think?

Happy Holiday Card Set Video

Season of Hope Card

I'm still on my Christmas card kick, but today's card is a little less Christmasy. I was going more for a wintery look. It's kind of hard to read the top of the card. It says "A Wonderful Season of" to go with "Hope" in the bottom right corner. I stamped John 3:16 on the inside since that pretty much sums up where my hope lies.

Recipe (All Close To My Heart):
Magnifique B&T Duos
Daisy White cardstock
My Acrylix Jubilation, Cricut Bundle and Everlasting Life
White Ribbon

This is the first time I've used my sewing machine on paper! I really like the look so I'm going to leave my sewing maching out and try some more. I used Liquid Glass on the back side to hold the ends of the thread in place. For the dove, I cut a 1-1/2 inch <tag1> from the Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge. It is perfect for the 1 inch stamp.

So what do you think about Card #2? Please comment with your thoughts.

JOY Christmas Card

You don't need to check your calendars. It is still August (for a few more hours). Christmas is still months away. But if you want to send out some handmade Christmas cards, it's not too early to start planning them. Over the last few days, I've come up with a few ideas that I'd like to share with you. I'll be posting one card each day for the next four days. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts so please add them in the comment section after the blog posts.

My first card is really simple. If my goal is to make a ton of cards in a hurry, this is definitely the way to go. Simply cut, stamp, assemble and add ribbon. The ribbon is tied in just a single knot.

Recipe (all Close To My Heart):
Jingle B&T Duos
My Acrylix Friendship Alphabet, All the Best and Everlasting Life
Juniper and Colonial White card stock
Juniper ribbon

The inside is stamped with Isaiah 9:6 ("For unto us a child is born..."). What words could bring more joy than those?

This card uses the retired Jingle paper that I bought when it was discounted (whoo hoo!). The juniper and tulip color combo is atypical for Christmas and adds an fun flair. Before I started, I wasn't sure I'd like it, but it really came together nicely.

What do you think? Please comment, I'd love to get your thoughts!

Winning Convention Scrapbook

You may not understand why I came home from the Close To My Heart convention so excited. Well, here's something that will blow you away. Tresa Black was kind enough to let us repost this video of her winning scrapbook. This year's theme was "Wishes". There were a few rules like one layout could have no photos, one from Studio J,... You get the idea. Contention attendees got to vote on the top eight and Tresa's won! The other seven were also amazing.

I hope this inspires you to try something new. Just don't expect me to be able to teach all the awesome techniques she used!

Everyone who comes will get to make one for free! This card uses the new Elemental paper pack, Blue Ribbon stamp set and a Milepost star.

I'd like to get a rough idea of the number of kits to make, so please drop me a quick email if you plan to come. You can also RSVP by accepting the invitation on Facebook.
